Hello Romy!
I just listened to this system http://www.hornfabrik-eder.de/index.htm which has an 8" Görlich in the upper bass horn and I couldn´t find anything "inherently faulty" about > 4" without compression. The kettledrums...

Ming,
what you say is not exactly accurate. I have MANY desiccations about it with number Goto users in past and if I am not mistaken then even some kind GOTO official from past event argued this point with me. He insisted that Goto require 4...
By “midbass horn” I’m talking about a horn with about a flare frequency of about 60 Hz, to use with Fane 8” drivers, to start with.
(Was planning to use this horn from wherever it sounded best, try...
However, these sorts of basshorns with twin 15" drivers and a very large mouth (larger than the cones of the drivers) have a long history. The Altec 210 cabinet, as used in the Altec A2 systems with two 515-type woofers, is a prime ...

This is kind of shit that I hate. I went to AA and read a person said:
“Don't miss the CAR room... That would be Classic Audio Reproduction. But that's only if they are showing the same basic design as last year, which uses modified JBL drive...
hi all, thanks for your interest !yes the frame is curved, HF and MF are //yes there is a phase plug in the bass horn. This cover 80-300Hz.there is a separate infra-bass section, covering 20-80Hz.images of the bass phase p...
As well, it is 15 ohm, and one of the few monitors I can drive with my SET reasonable. All other monitors I know demand so much more amp and I still cannot understand why.
Hi,
no mention by the manufacturer what brand of autoformers are in use (or if they roll their own).
There is one thing I can say. Nickel Lams are bright, shiny and light coloured. Steel lams are dark and dull. I...

The thread is derivation form the previous thread about the Dima's amplifier.I was trying to gradually approach better and better loudspeakers with the Zarathustra amplifier but today I decided to hit with the Zarathustra the pinnacle of low sen...

I do not think that I changed
opinion about anything. I used the white suspension since my initial introduction
to of S2 and never likes any other suspensions. I do use metal suspension with
S3 driver in my Fundamental channel but is operates betw...
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who is overwhelmed by compression drivers. I tried the A7s way back when they were current and everyone's favorite, and I tried various modifications with like-minded friends; b...
Romy, I don't know what it is, but something bothers me about the way the upper horn hangs. All other drivers are supported from bottom, that one from the top. This is just gut, but it doesn't seem right to me. ...

I tend to agree with rowuk. The WE horns are great to load the WE drivers and
if the drivers are good, like 594A for instance then the result might be truly
great (of one do not know anything better). However, the greatness of the result is good ON...

Romy,I half expected some kind of whipping from you which I fully welcome. I am guessing some of it is to see if I buckle and get all weepy under a critical look at my statements but hopefully you are just trying to possibly get me to clarify my obje...
OK, now I am happier as I did my duty and the back chambers are ready to be attached to the horns and to be lifted up. Yesterday I spent 5 hours trying to build the back chamber displacement that Jessie and my carpenter ...

Datubie,
I do not think you should have a lot of expectations from Japanese GOTO office. I do not know how about the drivers but I would doubt their practical experience in system engineering. Their exponential trumpet horns are very poor. Their “r...
The best driver I have heard is the TAD 4003.
It does not use the secondary resonance of the suspension, as described by Duke LeJeune above for the TAD 4001-4002, to extend the response towards 20 kHz, but has a natural roll off fro...
... I often note that you describe TAD compression drivers as being not to your taste. Could you tell us which of their range of drive units you have direct experience of and on what horns?
Oh well I tried. I though I was clearly asking some easy questions about two similar drivers and the small details of what makes them sound different.
I obviously did not do a good job at this.I thought Romy being very familiar with the S2 and also...

him to unlimit dynamics - in order to achieve the most live-alike sound. First
of all, he noticed that Goto pleases him the most with uncompressed transient

Hi Gera"Has anyone done this and what were the observations of comparing different topologies."I have done just what you propose, I tried the JBL2490 compresion driver with a 3" mouth in a 110 hz horn well made, MDF round tactrix horn, it goes ...

I think the usage of Romys Injection Channel has misguided you to think it was implemented because of a certian lack of tone or some sterile sound, nothing of the sort, I cannot blame you for not having listened to Romys system, but theo...

I do not know how my S2 driver will sound but I defiantly know that it will have the problem with temperature. Looking prematurely at the driver’s sound it looks like it produce the necessary magnetic force at 2A-2.3A, that heats a lot of this driver...

My definition of “Japanese sound” is different than yours and I do not feel that Japanese sound is characterized by “tilted up high frequencies character”.
i will give you this much - horn loading ribbons is fundamentally not as advantageous as horn loading dynamic drivers. this is because ribbon mass is already close to airload mass (in theory could even be less) and little ex...

Looking at the variety of exponential, parabolic, conical, tractrix, hyperbolic and whatever ales horn profiles out there I was thinking that we probably incorrectly approach the entire subject of horn profile analyses.
We listen the horns and we fe...
